With the worlds largest domain name registry transition, being the .au registry transfer to Afilias, there were a few small teething problems. One of the issues was with respect to Whois for .au domain names, and one of the others was the .au domain password recovery tool.
The Whois issue has now been resolved and the new home of .au Whois is now https://whois.auda.org.au. Port 43 Whois is also operational. For those of you who use a Mac, you can run Terminal (which uses Port 43) to run Whois queries from the command line – by far the easiest way to run them. The only issue with this kind of whois check compared to the web based form is that registrant email addresses are not visible (this has always been the case).
In the meantime, we are informed that work is being undertaken on the .au domain password recovery tool, with the new system to be rolled out over the coming weeks.
